About me:

I began my helping career working for the state in helping to connect clients to needed resources for food and medical care. I saw the need for mental health support and realized that many of my clients needed to utilize our time together to discuss the stressors in their lives. Therapy felt like the best fit for me so I decided to go back to school so I could offer this service to those who needed it.

After obtaining my bachelor’s degree I began working with pregnant women who were in addiction or recovery or at risk for abusing substances.  I really enjoyed this population, being a parent myself who had struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety. I recognized that women need non-judgemental support which can be hard to find in those closest to us. I worked to help guide them in having healthy pregnancies and found an even greater need for individualized services for families working to build a healthy, safe environment.

Once I obtained my masters degree, I began working mostly with adults struggling with addiction.  I realized that many of the clients sitting in front of me were victims of long-term dysfunction.  Most had endured abuse in many forms or traumas that the family, for a variety of reasons, hadn’t been able to process and recover from. They had turned to substances to cope with the long-term effects of the lives they had experienced but couldn’t fully process or understand.  For those working in any helping profession, we begin to look “upstream”. Instead of pulling people out of the stream, how can we prevent them from falling into the stream?  In 2020, I was provided the wonderful opportunity to gain a certification in PCIT. Through PCIT, I was able to lead, guide, and coach families in healthy, supportive ways that build confidence in parents and their children. I saw how much impact this had in such a short time and it has become a passion to help families break generational cycles and learn new and simple ways to bring peace into their homes and build confident children, with more of a chance to feel at peace with their identifies and their place in this world. PC-CARE is much like PCIT in the results but has a more concise structure, shorter treatment, and addresses a variety of behaviors. I’m delighted to be doing the work that I’m doing and excited to keep moving to provide customized services to the people in our community.
